We believe that young people thrive when they’re connected — to each other, to trusted leaders, and to something bigger than themselves. Our youth ministry exists to create safe, fun, and meaningful spaces where teens can build friendships, grow in confidence, learn about Jesus and the Bible, and discover who they are in God’s story.
Each week during term time, we run small groups tailored to the interests of our young people. Whether it’s surfing at the beach, skating, painting, hitting a golf ball, jumping in the car for a local adventure, or simply hanging out — there’s a group for you. These groups are relaxed and welcoming, and led by committed leaders who genuinely care.
Once a month, all our small groups come together for one big youth hangout. These nights are packed with energy — eating together, skating on our indoor ramp, foosball competitions, games, music, and more.
But it’s not just about the fun. We also make space to talk about things that matter: who Jesus is, how to deal with anxiety or addiction, finding purpose, and navigating life’s challenges with faith and hope.
We’d love to help you get connected. Reach out through the Contact Us bubble on our website or find us on Instagram:

Tbh God has no interest in what you wear and neither do we! Please come as you are or as you feel most comfortable.
No. One of the reasons Christianity is such good news is because God’s forgiveness is a gift. It’s not something we earn or pay for — it’s freely given, and so is our welcome. Everyone is invited to come as they are, with no expectation to contribute financially. We never ask guests to cover costs, and there’s no charge to attend any of our services or events. Church is a place of grace, not pressure.
The message about Jesus is the best news in the world, and is for everyone! We’re always delighted to welcome anyone and everyone whatever your background, spiritual orientation, age, or gender.
We have a number of congregations meeting at different times & locations across the area. Check out the ‘Worship Times & Locations’ section for more info or drop us a line via the Contact Us bubble.

We love having children in our services — noise and all! Our Kids’ Church programmes create age-appropriate spaces for tamariki to grow in faith, build friendships, and have fun. Our Kids' Church is held each week during school term time at our 1030am service (usually held at Sumner School Hall).
A relaxed space at the back of church where parents and caregivers can care for their little ones while staying connected to the service. Wiggles, giggles, and noise are always welcome!
A fun, welcoming environment where preschoolers hear stories, sing songs, and create crafts that help them discover who God is and how much He loves them.
A vibrant, Bible-based programme with games, stories, and discussions that connect God’s truth to real life. Kids learn how Jesus is with them in everything they face.
Just like Jesus and his friends, Groms is about learning, laughing, and doing life together. We explore what it means to follow Jesus — and have a great time doing it. See our youth section for more info about what's on offer for our rangatahi.
Joyful Connection for Little Ones & Their Caregivers.
Fridays, 10am during term time | St Andrew’s Church, Redcliffs
Mainly Music is a fun, interactive music and movement session for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers — and a welcoming space for parents and caregivers to connect and build community.
Held every Friday morning during term time, Mainly Music combines songs, actions, instruments, and rhythm in a playful and engaging environment. It’s designed to help under 5s develop motor skills, confidence, and a love of music — all while having heaps of fun!
After the music session, there’s time to stay and play while enjoying a light morning tea. It’s a great opportunity to meet other local families, share stories, and support one another in the parenting journey.
Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, you’re always welcome.

A Weekly Space for Little Ones & Their Grown-Ups.
Thursdays, 10am during term time | Nayland Street Chapel, Sumner
Newbies is a relaxed, welcoming playgroup for parents, caregivers, babies, and toddlers. Held every Thursday morning during the school term, it’s a space designed to help your little one thrive through play while you enjoy a warm cuppa and connect with others in the same stage of life.
We know that parenting in the early years can be full-on, so we aim to create a calm, friendly environment where you can catch your breath, make new friends, and feel supported.
The group is play-based with age-appropriate toys and activities, and we provide a light morning tea for adults and children. Whether you’re brand new to the area or just looking for a regular rhythm with your little one, you’re warmly invited.
Koha (donation) appreciated but never required.
Just come as you are — we’d love to meet you.
Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the big questions of life, faith, and meaning from a Christian perspective. It’s a welcoming, open, and informal space where people from all walks of life can explore life’s biggest questions together—no pressure, no follow-up, and no cost.
Each session begins with a shared meal or snack, followed by a short video that covers a key element of the Christian faith such as “Who is Jesus?”, “Why did He die?”, and “How can I have faith?” After the video, there's a relaxed discussion where you can share your thoughts and hear from others in an honest, friendly, and judgment-free environment.
Alpha is for anyone who is curious, questioning, or just wants to explore spirituality and the meaning of life. It’s run all around the world, and millions of people have experienced it in homes, cafes, churches, universities, and community centres.
You don’t need to be a churchgoer to attend. You don’t need to know anything about the Bible. You’re free to say as much or as little as you like. All we ask is that you come with an open mind.
We’d love to have you join us. Everyone’s welcome.
Life is Better When we do it Together
Here at SumRed we believe that following Jesus makes life better and makes us better at life. But we also know that sometimes it can be lonely following the way of Jesus. The thing is: we weren’t made to follow Jesus in isolation. We were made to do it together.
Home Groups are an awesome way to make new friends, go deeper in faith, be enriched spiritually, find a safe space to ask hard questions & take your next steps in your faith journey.
We have a number of groups meeting throughout the week across Sumner, Redcliffs and Mt Pleasant. We’re also always in the process of establishing new groups. So if you’d like to know more drop us a line via the Contact Us bubble & we’ll be touch ASAP.
We have various home groups meeting during the week that cater specially for young adults. Home Group is a chance to connect, delve into deep topics, build friendships that last & take your next steps in your faith journey. For more info contact us via the Contact Us bubble.
But sometimes it’s fun to get together just because we can. Be it a lazy Sunday lunch, pizza at the beach or yarning around the fire we love to get together and just relax. Drop us a line via the Contact Us bubble to connect in.

Ever notice there are no inspiring stories of accumulation, but there are thousands of inspiring stories of sacrifice? We’ve noticed that too.
Since the very beginning of our church, a group of faithful and generous people have made the bold decision to give away 10% of their income — not out of obligation, but out of a deep desire to see God’s family flourish here in Sumner and Redcliffs. Their generosity has helped shape the community we now enjoy, and we believe God has used it — and continues to use it — to change lives.
The truth is, you’re surrounded by generous people at SumRed. Every week, their giving helps create a church where people can connect with one another, find belonging, and discover the life-changing love of Jesus Christ. Your giving helps sow the seeds of faith and growth — in kids, in teens, in adults, and in families.
But it doesn't stop here. We believe in being a church that looks outward. That’s why 10% of everything we receive goes straight to supporting our overseas mission partners serving in some of the most remote and vulnerable parts of the world.
We also support local initiatives like the Woolston foodbank, community-based youth work, and the Christchurch City Mission — providing real help to real people in need.
When you give, you’re not just supporting a church — you’re becoming part of something bigger. Locally. Regionally. Globally.
Thank you for giving. It makes more of a difference than you know.

We take the safety and wellbeing of our young people incredibly seriously at SumRed. All our key youth and children’s ministry volunteers are regularly police checked. We have also appointed a Children’s and Young Person’s Safety Officer (CYPSO) who is an active member of our Parish Vestry & oversees our CYPS team.
Our current CYPSO is Hazel. Not only is Hazel discreet and easily approachable, she also has experience working with children within a professional environment. There are a number of posters displayed around the church grounds providing information for how to contact the Parish CYPSO, CYPS team and/or someone outside of the Parish if you or a young person experience, or suspect, abuse to be taking place. On top of this, you can also use the form below as an easy way to report a concern to both Hazel & the Christchurch Diocesan Safety Team. All submissions are treated in a confidential and professional manner.
If you’d like to contact us give us a call or an email as per below. Alternatively you can fill in the contact form & we’ll be back in touch as soon as we possibly can. For more information about our team, check out the 'About' section of our site.
